My Dad died at York Hospital
in the intensive care unit which is on the ground floor in the
back next to the woods. Ten minutes before he passed away the
deer emerged from the forest, a doe and fawn in the early morning
light. The atmosphere in the room changed to one of celebration
and excitment when we saw them from the window. I called to the
nurses to come and see them and they said they had never seen
the deer before. It was a fitting tribute to my father who would
not allow hunters to hunt on our property so as to protect the
deer. As soon as I returned to my home in the midwest (after
the funerel) I painted them as they had appeared. God is Good.
